Marc Fagan was born in a small South Carolina town in 1951 and now lives and works in Atlanta, GA. In 1976, he became seriously interested in photography while working as a media specialist at the Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville, SC. His early photographs were primarily black and white, however by 1979 he began to work more and more with color film stocks. By 1985 his work had shifted entirely to color, using 35 mm, 6 x 7 cm and 4 x 5 in. cameras. From 1979 to 1987, Marc gained technical facilities by working as a photographer for a large corporation, specializing in portraits, slide shows, advertising and publication photos. It was during this period that Marc defined several photographic series that he still builds upon to this day. From 1969 to 1984, Marc studied theater, media arts, journalism and photography. Marc earned an arts degree from North Greenville College in 1974. Marc attended seminars conducted by master photographers at the Appalachian Photographic Workshop. As well, he’s taught photography and video classes at the Greenville County Museum School of Art and the Katani Foundation in Columbia, SC. In late 2003 Marc began working with digital format cameras to produce new limited edition collections. His new color photographs have their roots in photographic techniques that Marc experimented with and developed in the ’80s through mid- ’90s. Since then Marc has continued to refine his unique approach and to push the boundaries of what people have come to expect of the photographic medium. Currently, Marc works from his office/studio located in the Lenox business district of Atlanta, GA.
